Attendance
At Chelford CE Primary School, we firmly believe that regular school attendance is vital for a child's academic success and personal development. Consistent attendance not only supports a child’s educational journey but also fosters habits that are essential for their future.
Academic Achievement
Regular attendance is directly linked to academic achievement. When children attend school consistently, they are exposed to a continuous learning experience, which is crucial for understanding and retaining new concepts. Missing school means missing out on vital lessons, class discussions, and collaborative activities, making it harder for pupils to catch up and stay on track with their peers.
At Chelford CE Primary School, we aim to ensure that every child has the best possible chance to succeed academically, and regular attendance is a key component of this goal.
Social and Emotional Development
School is not just a place for academic learning; it is also a community where children develop essential social and emotional skills. Regular attendance helps children build strong relationships with their classmates and teachers, fostering a sense of belonging and community. These interactions are critical for developing communication skills, empathy, teamwork, and resilience. Children who attend school regularly are more likely to feel confident and secure, which contributes to their overall well-being and ability to thrive.
Establishing Routine and Responsibility
Attending school regularly helps children establish a sense of routine and responsibility. These habits are foundational for success in later life. Understanding the importance of punctuality and commitment prepares children for future responsibilities in higher education and the workplace. By emphasising the importance of attendance, we are helping our students develop life skills that will benefit them throughout their lives.
Reducing Absenteeism
At Chelford CE Primary School, we are committed to reducing absenteeism and supporting families in ensuring that children attend school regularly. We understand that there are legitimate reasons for occasional absences, such as illness or family emergencies. However, we encourage parents to communicate with the school and seek support if they are facing challenges that affect their child's attendance.
Our dedicated staff is always available to assist families in overcoming barriers to regular attendance, providing resources and support as needed.
In line with guidance published by the Department for Education in August 2024, requests for pupil absence during school term time cannot be authorised, unless in extreme cases.
Engaging Parents and the Community
We recognise that parents and the wider community play a crucial role in promoting regular school attendance. We maintain open communication with parents and provide regular updates on their child's attendance and academic progress. We also offer workshops and resources to help parents understand the importance of regular attendance and how they can support their children in maintaining it.
In conclusion, regular school attendance is essential for academic success, social and emotional development, and the establishment of lifelong habits of responsibility and commitment. At Chelford CE Primary School, we are dedicated to fostering a supportive environment that promotes the importance of attendance, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential.
Is my child well enough to attend school?
Determining whether your child is well enough to attend school can be challenging. If your child has vomited or has diarrhea, they must remain at home for 48 hours following the last episode.
For mild symptoms like a runny nose or a slight cough, they can usually attend school if they are otherwise feeling well and energetic. If your child has an underlying condition or you're unsure, consult your healthcare provider for guidance. Ensuring your child is well enough to participate fully in school activities helps maintain a healthy environment for all students.
